Orban Optimod 5950

For half a century, Orban Optimod has been the global benchmark for professional audio processing. The OPTIMOD 5950 is the result of 50 years of experience in signal processing. With the best features of the former flagship OPTIMOD 8700i plus additional capabilities and enhancements, the OPTIMOD 5950 meets all broadcasting requirements.

The OPTIMOD 5950 can be easily integrated into any studio or broadcast environment. The device has analog, AES3, composite, and digital MPX as well as AES67/SMPTE-ST2110 inputs and outputs. In addition, the optional μMPX enables cost-effective transmission of digital MPX signals over IP.

The OPTIMOD 5950 is equipped with Orban’s latest audio processing features, including the MX Peak Limiter for reducing distortion, a subharmonic synthesizer for powerful bass, and a multipath mitigator/phase that reduces multipath distortion without compromising stereo separation..

The OPTIMOD 5950 is a compact 1U device offering a powerful feature set. Equipped with a high-resolution touch display and remote control via any HTML5 web browser, the OPTIMOD 5950 combines user-friendly operation with the highest quality OPTIMOD audio processing for FM, DAB+, and web streams.

The MX Peak Limiter technology and the important Look-Ahead Limiter in the new Optimod 5950 ensure the ultimate sound on DAB+, FM, and webstream. This allows you to avoid limiter distortion and not waste valuable bits when encoding DAB+ or webstream audio data. This ensures that your program content reaches your audience in optimal quality. The result: longer listening times and better audience retention lead to a higher market share.

These durable devices are used by the world’s largest broadcasters and deliver the highest quality sound for DAB+/FM and web streams.

audio samples

Audio samples Optimod 5950 from our test setup with AES/EBU playback and recording path. Here, we compare the original audio file and the direct output signal from the device. All files are WAV 48kHz, 32-bit. Two different presets were used (Mainstream 4 MX & Classical 2-Band MX), which are available as factory presets, among others. The original file consists first of music, then speech, and finally a short instrumental section. The original file is a compilation of various audio files. The speech sections are unprocessed studio recordings. The volume of the original file was increased by 1.5dB to compensate for the difference in volume.
