Following the OPTIMOD 5950 and the OPTIMOD 5750, the OPTIMOD Trio is the third in Orban’s new generation of audio processors. Three audio processors in one device.

Compact in design, but big on functionality: OPTIMOD Trio can be configured as an AM audio processor, an FM audio processor or a DAB+/streaming audio processor. In HD mode, Trio is even suitable for TV audio processing. Whether you need a flexible backup device, are looking for a new cost-effective audio processor or simply want your audio signals to sound their best, OPTIMOD Trio can do the job.

OPTIMOD Trio can be configured and controlled via HTML5 web browser. SNMP v2 is also supported. The Ember+ protocol will be added in a future version. The current device version supports Redundant AoIP with Dante or Ravenna/AES67.

DAB / Streaming (HD operating mode):

You can choose between the five-band processing structure and the two-band processing structure:

  • 5-band: For a spectrally consistent sound with good loudness control
  • 5-band Low Latency
  • 5-Band Ultra Low Latency
  • 2-band: For a transparent sound that preserves the frequency balance of the original program material while effectively controlling subjective loudness

The True Peak limiter (for analog signal chain) anticipates and controls the peak levels after D/A conversion. Thanks to this “true peak control”, the sample rate conversion (sample rate converter) cannot cause the sample peaks to increase by more than 0.5 dB (no clipping of the sample peaks in the audio data). Without real peak control, analog clipping can occur even if all peak values of the digital samples are below 0 dBFS. This phenomenon is also referred to as “0 dBFS+”.

With PreCode™ technology, various aspects of the audio can be manipulated to minimize artifacts caused by low bit rate algorithms (codec) often used in DAB+ and streaming. The technique ensures consistent volume and texture from one source to the next. PreCode includes special audio band detection algorithms that take energy and spectrum into account. This can improve encoding for some algorithms.

ITU-R BS.1770-4 Loudness Control ensures a pleasant volume consistency and large volume fluctuations are avoided. It also makes it easier to comply with any loudness target values (loudness), e.g. recommendations such as EBU R128. The loudness controller offers your audience a pleasant listening experience.

Silence detection: A “Silence Detector” is available for the analog, digital and AoIP inputs. It can generate alarms and enables automatic switching to a backup input.

FM operating mode:

The OPTIMOD Trio also offers the four processing structures (5-band, 2-band, as listed above). In addition, it can also be used as a stand-alone stereo coder with a latency of just 2 ms and overshoot limiter. The ITU BS.412 multiplex power controller limits the MPX power evenly and reliably, thus ensuring compliance with OFCOM regulations. An integrated RDS/RBDS generator supports dynamic PS. The optional μMPX interface allows you to transmit DMPX over IP.

AM operating mode:

With OPTIMOD Trio, you can also achieve outstanding quality in the AM band. It increases the density and volume of the program material through multiband limiting and multiband distortion suppression, improves the consistency of your station and increases the volume without producing audible side effects. OPTIMOD Trio compensates for the high and low frequency attenuation of typical AM receivers with a fully adjustable program equalizer that allows high frequencies to be boosted by up to 20 dB (at 5 kHz) without the side effects associated with conventional processors.
